Byron Bay is a place where the surf’s always up, the sunsets are next-level, and creativity flows as freely as the ocean breeze. It’s in this relaxed yet electric part of the world that AZTECA Margaritas and local artist Ruby Tuesday Matthews have teamed up to bring the BOOZY BUNDLE to life. Known for her bold and effortless style, and recently her art, Ruby is the perfect partner for AZTECA’s handcrafted Margaritas — both embodying the laid-back yet vibrant spirit of Byron.
We caught up with Ruby to chat about what makes this collab so exciting, what fuels her creative process, and, naturally, why she’s so obsessed with
AZTECA Margaritas.
From beachside drinks to designing pieces that pop, here’s a peek inside
Ruby’s world.
What's your favourite drink?
Well that’s an obvious one
What's special about AZTECA margaritas?
What isn’t special about an Azteca, I love that it’s even better than a restaurant marg with added convenience. They’re born and raised in the same place I was (Byron) and have no bullshit (also like me).
Is it true what they say...I've heard you often have an empty
AZTECA in your car / handbag?
Obviously I don’t drink and drive, but yes I love to crack a few down at the beach or if I have to supervise the kids on a Friday.
What inspired your sick artwork that defines this special collab?
The Louie Vuitton cowboy show
If you could only pack 3 items into the epic bright green
"Hecho a mano en Byron" tote for a night out, what would they be?
A night out? I much prefer a boozy lunch, but I would bring a roadie, lip balm and a good pair of sunnies.
What's your all time favourite book (or) what are you reading / want to read this summer?
Next on my list in the Elvis book “From Here To The Great Unknown", currently reading 'Love, Pamela” by Pamela Anderson.
If you were to create a playlist that matched the spirit of AZTECA,
what 3 songs would definitely make it on there?
Cowboy Gangster Politician by Goldie Boutilier, Strangers Kiss by Alex Cameron and Online Jesus by Kelli Holiday.
These really make the margaritas taste even better.
What's one item in your closet or home that you couldn’t live without?
Can I pick two? Because it’d be double denim. Double denim forever.
Do you have a favourite place in Byron Bay that always inspires you?
Heading out to my family farm in the hinterland that I grew up on really grounds me.
What’s your go-to snack to pair with an AZTECA margarita?
A good guac and spicy corn chips.
What’s the most fun part of working on a collaboration like this?
Working with local legends that make the best margaritas in the world. I instigated this collaborations based on the fact that I was purchasing these every week for me and my friends, working with a product that I’ve been personally buying for years plus I don’t mind taste testing for quality control...
If you could design your own AZTECA margarita glass,
what would it look like?
Hip flask that can sneak into a venue that can’t seem to get their margaritas right.
You’ve got a lot going on with this collaboration.
What’s something you’re most excited about for the future?
Maybe a stiffer drink would be fun, hint hint (tequila! Or a mezcal?)
To Sum It Up...
This collab between AZTECA x RTM is about more than a perfect Margarita. It’s about capturing the true vibe of Byron Bay: creative, relaxed, and a little bit wild. Whether you’re sipping an AZTECA margarita while watching the waves or getting lost in Ruby’s art, rocking a Robey 'RANCH HAT' it’s all about living in the moment and embracing the good stuff that makes life a little more colourful.
So here’s to great drinks, good vibes, and making life feel a bit more like a summer afternoon 🌿
